A few of the 2 pound Abolition coins has been minted incorrectly. These ill-informed news items were based on some coins having the edge of the coin inscription upside down where the obverse side was visible. The Royal Mint quickly pointed out that the story of a minting error with the upside down was incorrect.
The reserve resign of the 2007 coin was designed by David Gentleman. Surrounding the central design of the year and a chain, the coin features the words "And Act for Abolition of the Slave" with the year issue- 2007- at the bottom. The nought in 1807 forms part of the chain, but it is broken to signify the end of the slave trading.
The obverse side of the coin shows Her Majesty The Queen. The edge inscription reads "AM I NOT A MAN, AND A BROTHER"
a phrase attributed to Straffordshire entrepreneur Josiah Wedgwood, which became synonymous with abolition.
