For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and triangular shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Precise weight is 5 pounds 14.2 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly box-shaped. At their longest points, the measures approximately 5" on each side, and it is approximately 4" inches thick at its fattest.
Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions and/or fractures. This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way.
